Andy Forsberg Charges Into Top-10 at Placerville Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in Placerville Speedway’s season opener on Saturday night, Andy Forsberg had a tumultuous start to the night. Having issues in qualifying and his heat race, Forsberg and crew would rally back and pick up a 10th place finish once the night came to a close.
“First and foremost, I want to give a huge shoutout to the Russel Motorsports group for getting the show in,” Andy Forsberg said. “We have been pounded with weather and the place was in great shape when we all showed up on Saturday night. As for us racing, we had an eventful night. We had a shock go bad in qualifying, didn’t get out of the heat, and then we did get rolling in the ‘B’ and the ‘A’, and ended up coming home with a 10th place finish.”
When the night came to life, Forsberg had an eventful qualifying session as a failing shock led to an ill handling racecar that relegated him to timing the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in 19th fastest.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Forsberg and company rectified their issues from time trials, but the Auburn, CA driver wasn’t able to race into the Top-Four as his fifth-place finish forced him into the night’s ‘semi’ feature event for one final shot to lock into the ‘A’.
Lining up fourth in the ‘B’, Forsberg came to life in the 12-lap race as he was able to make a couple of swift moves to work his way into the race lead. Able to pick up the win, Forsberg kept his night going as he moved into the 25-lap feature event and took the green flag from the 17th starting position.
With the waving of the green flag, Forsberg had a good start as he jumped into 13th on the opening lap until calamity ensued and the PHR Racing No. 92 fell victim and was stalled out in turn two.
Despite damage to both wings, Forsberg was able to restart as he tagged the field from the 20th position with just one lap scored.
Getting into 18th when the race came back to life, Forsberg was stuck back there as he was mired in traffic and looking for a way forward. Able to stay on the lead lap, Forsberg jumped into 16th on the ninth lap and was able to start making headway.
Cracking the Top-15 at the halfway point, Forsberg continue to climb as got into 11th with nine laps left in the race. Using a late restart to his advantage, Forsberg worked into 10th, where he would go on to finish.
“We got collected in a wreck on the opening lap, and got ran over by cars trying to stay fired and tore up our wings which is a bummer,’ Forsberg said. “Happy with how we ended our night, and hopefully the weather holds off and we can get another night in up on the hill this weekend with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
